Canterbury (1)

Canterbury is about 6 miles south of the coast and is easily reached from both Herne Bay and Whitstable. Parking in the city is an absolute nightmare, so you are strongly advised to make use of the extremely efficient Park & Ride bus services, which run every 10 minutes from Sturry Road (the best one if you are coming from Herne Bay), Wincheap (Whitstable or Ashford) and New Dover Road (if coming from Dover/Folkestone).

It hadn't been my intention to put any photos of Canterbury up on the site but I happened to take the two cathedral shots specifically for a friend and decided to share them with everyone else, too. Since writing this page, I have added a second Canterbury page that can be found here.

if you want to see any other views of Canterbury. I'll try to oblige.

Canterbury Cathedral

Canterbury Cathedral at night, as seen from St. Stephens Hill (next to the university). A truly magnificent building, the seat of the Church of England is well worth visiting. So, if you get bored of all that sea air, have a look at our local city, too.

Canterbury Cathedral

When you get into the city, this would be your first close up view of the cathedral, assuming you come from the High Street of course.

Cathedral Gate
Butter Market

The main cathedral gate taken from Mercery Lane. Directly outside the gate is the Buttermarket.....

.....which is here. In the centre is Canterbury's war memorial. This part of the city is always crowded with tourists, no matter what time of year, or so it seems.

Westgate Tower

The Westgate Tower is the city's only surviving gateway. That entrance is just big enough for a standard double decker bus to pass under.
