The Ship Centurion is in the High Street, close to St Alphege church. This will be John and Jo's local. Next door is Whitstable Stationer's, which has hardly changed since I was a lad. To the right, between the Ship and Griffey's decorating shop (another long-standing local business) is the alley leading to the local public conveniences, behind which have been crammed nine properties, Oyster Mews. It must be wonderful giving directions there.....
