| At some point, Cheryl and I will curb our spending on travel. The last trip we made in 2004 was to Salzburg and Munich to visit the Weihnachtsmarkte. That's Christmas markets to the non German speakers. |
| I'd been to Munich loads of times when I was with my previous company but had never been to Salzburg, over the border in Austria. Conversely, Cheryl had visited Salzburg for work once but had never been to Munich. In any case, she'd not been to any of the markets, which was our primary reason for this trip. |

| First; Munich. This is Marienplatz, in the centre of the Aldstadt (old town). The main market is in front of the Rathaus (town hall)..... | .....which is this building. I always like to visit European cities, so long as they have an old town, which most do. |

| This is the Isartor, or Isar Gate, on the edge of the old town. The Isar is the river on which Munich is built. |
It being winter (and Germany), the Burgers create a temporary ice rink in the city centre. The lad in this shot was not so sure it had been a good idea, mind. |

| A view of Salzburg and the Salzach river, as seen from the castle on the hilltop. | Very touristy. There are a number of these horsedrawn taxis that will take you for a 25 minute ride around the Altstadt. |

| Surprise, surprise. Panoramas. Well, you can't go to a mountainous region and not take these pictures. Above is the view from Bechtesgarden, a beautiful Bavarian town right on the German/Austrian border. Below is the extended view from Salzburg castle. |
