Oxford Street

Following directly from the first set of pictures, we continue up Oxford Street, from the railway bridge up to Nelson Road.

Audrey's
Belmont House
Audrey's hairdressers shop is right against the railway bridge. Man; that upper floor flat must be peaceful. Belmont House is a bed and breakfast guesthouse between the railway bridge and the East Kent pub.....
the East Kent
British Legion
..... which is here. Another Shepherd Neame pub and spiritual home of Tortilla Army, a wonderfully eclectic rock band. Directly opposite the East Kent is the Royal British Legion. In the 60's and 70's, this was Mrs Windle's dental practice.

Cromwell Road
Coach & Horses
We have now reached the junction with Cromwell Road. Anyone remember that single storey grey building in the centre of the picture being the town surgery?

Next up is the Coach & Horses pub, yet another Shepherd Neame licencee. The little road to it's left leads to Whitstable County Junior school. Next to that is the war memorial and behind that, the town library.
War memorial
Nelson Road
This is Whitstable's war memorial. Sorry it's an old photo; there were major roadworks around it when I went out photographing today.

So, now we are at the junction of Oxford Street and Nelson Road. This is Oxford Mansions, a name that gives the building an air of class. I have no idea what the apartments are like inside, however.
